Clark Track & Field Shine with Depth and Speed at Latest Meet

Recapping Saturday's Track & Field action at the Larry Byerly Invitational

PORTLAND, Ore. - Women's - The Clark College Women's Track & Field team turned in an impressive all-around performance this weekend, highlighted by personal records, season bests, and a meet-best relay performance that put the Penguins on the NWAC map.

Relay Dominance Leads the Charge

  • The Clark 4x100m relay squad of Sydney Allen, Nico Field, Emily Peabody, and April Cruz scorched the track with a 48.57 finish, claiming the #1 time in the NWAC this season and earning 8 valuable points. The 4x400m team backed that up with a strong 4th-place effort, finishing in 4:20.46 to lock in 5 more team points.

Sprints & Hurdles Continue to Impress

  • Sydney Allen was a standout in individual events, placing 13th in the 100m (12.85) and 8th in the 200m (26.17)—both personal records and both landing her in the NWAC Top 10 (#8 and #5 respectively).
  • Ilia Field matched the energy with a 13.52 PR in the 100m and clocked a 1:12.35 in the 400m hurdles, now #10 in the NWAC.
  • Mandy Richeson surged to #2 in the NWAC in the 100m hurdles, running a season-best 16.12, and added a 27.64 in the 200m.
  • Mia Hicks-Oliver turned in a stellar meet as well, notching PRs in the 100m hurdles (16.71, NWAC #10) and the long jump (5.05m, good for 6th place and 3 team points).

Distance Crew Delivers Big Time

  • Mia Beightol once again proved she's one of the NWAC's rising stars in the distance events, placing 5th in the 1500m with a PR of 4:44.00 (NWAC #2) and running 2:24.52 in the 800m.
  • Kennedy Taylor and Vaughn Shimko also hit personal records in the 1500m, placing 19th and 21st respectively.
  • In the 5000m, Dani Buttrell and Soleil Bianchi earned Top 10 NWAC rankings, with Buttrell clocking a season-best 19:35.86 (NWAC #6) and Bianchi running a PR 19:55.55 (NWAC #10).

Strong Showing in the Field

  • In the shot put, Jaelyn Sayler earned 8th place with a throw of 11.21m, now #5 in the NWAC, and followed up with a solid discus throw of 30.90m.
  • Freshman Lucille Ware also made noise with a 32.87m toss in the discus, placing 16th.
  • In the long jump, the Penguins stacked depth with Hicks-Oliver (6th), Breyelle Box (13th), and Cruz (15th) all competing strongly.
  • Box, Cruz, and Sally Gould followed up in the triple jump, showing off Clark's continued versatility across all event areas.
  • Box also cleared 1.43m in the high jump, good for 7th overall and #8 in the NWAC this season.

Men's - It was a weekend full of breakout performances and elite finishes for the Clark College Men's Track & Field team. From sprints to throws to jumps and relays, the Penguins proved they're a serious threat heading into the final stretch of the NWAC season.

Relays Light It Up

  • The men's 4x100m squad (J'Quan Collins, Christopher Garnett, Jackson McQuain, and Koynn Williamdyke) claimed 3rd with a 42.49, securing 6 points for the team. The 4x400m 'A' team (Olmstead, Ensinger, Ebinger, Williamdyke) delivered big, crossing first in 3:23.15—currently the #2 time in the NWAC and earning 10 points. The 'B' squad added 5 more with a 4th-place finish in 3:33.41.

Speed and Strength in the Sprints

  • Christopher Garnett continues his climb in the sprint ranks with a 14th-place, PR 11.18 in the 100m and a 9th-place, 22.11 PR in the 200m, landing him in the NWAC top 20 in both events.
  • Ian Ebinger also cracked the NWAC top 25 in both sprints with times of 11.30 (100m) and 22.52 (200m).
  • Jaime Ramirez-Ortega clocked a 22.81 in the 200m and a solid 51.85 in the 400m.
  • The biggest splash came from freshman Koynn Williamdyke, who blazed a 48.13 in the 400m to take 1st overall and grab the #1 spot in the NWAC this season.
  • Williamdyke also doubled back in the 400m hurdles, winning that event too in 55.12, just ahead of teammate Max Ensinger (55.23), who also earned 8 points with his runner-up finish. Ensinger had a huge day himself, placing 3rd in the 110m hurdles (15.23).

Distance Delivers

  • Jake Beck ran a huge 15:40.88 PR in the 5000m, now the #4 time in the NWAC. He was joined by Ryan Koenninger (16:00.54, NWAC #10) and Dylan Stevenson (16:15.04, NWAC #14) for a strong showing in the distance crew.
  • Tim Bradshaw clocked 4:10.28 in the 1500m for a new season-best, and Ben Carter ran both the 800m and 1500m with a PR in the latter.

Jumps and Throws Power Up

  • Taeven Hill launched into the top spot in the NWAC with a massive PR in the long jump at 6.90m (22-07.75), scoring 10 points and leading a dominating jump squad.
  • J'Quan Collins (6.73m, 3rd), Beau Swett (6.68m, 5th), and Hayden Day (5.98m) packed the top 25.
  • Collins also added a 7th-place, 13.18m PR in the triple jump (#8 NWAC), while Hill placed 9th.
  • In the high jump, Swett soared to 2nd with a clearance of 1.96m (6-05.00), and Hayden Day jumped 1.91m to place 3rd—both in the NWAC top 6.
  • In the throws, Nico Valdez led the discus effort with a 41.28m toss (9th place), and Wyatt Galipeau added a 12.97m mark in the shot put.

What's Next

  • Clark Track & Field showcased not only top-tier talent but also incredible depth. With athletes making big moves up the NWAC rankings across all disciplines, the Penguins are peaking at the right time and looking to make a strong push through the postseason.
