VANCOUVER, Wash. - Clark College Athletics is excited to announce Christian Igielinski has been hired as the next Head Coach of the Penguins Men's and Women's Track & Field programs.
Igielinski's love for track & field is rooted in his childhood where he began running in middle school, in upstate New York. Here track and cross country quickly became his identity. He started off running the mid-distance events but his interests grew and branched out to the 400 meter hurdles, which became his best and favorite event. After graduating high school, Igielinski competed for the State University of New York College at Geneseo where he ran the 400 meter and 800 meter during the indoor season as well as competing in the 400 meter hurdles during the outdoor season. Following his higher education career, Igielinski continued running at community events, racing distances from miles to 15 kilometers.
After his time at SUNY Geneseo, Coach Igielinski moved away from home (Gowanda, New York) to start his teaching career in Las Vegas, Nevada, teaching middle school math. In 2017 he moved to the Pacific Northwest to teach for Vancouver Public Schools and eventually started his coaching career there as well. Igielinski began as an assistant coach for both track & field and cross country at Skyview High School, specializing in hurdles. Not long after, his teaching career took him to Gaiser Middle School where he also took the helm of the boys track team. This bring us to 2023 when then-Head Coach, Owen Frasier, reached out to bring Coach Igielinski on to help coach the Penguins in an assistant role. It was this season that the Clark program was revived coming out of the pandemic, where he was tasked with coaching long sprints and hurdles. Through his three seasons with the Penguins, Igielinski has coached 4 Northwest Athletic Conference Champions, a school record, several top-10 times, as well as plenty of Northwest Athletic Conference All-Americans in his events.
"We are proud to officially welcome Coach Igielinski as the new Head Coach of our Track & Field program," said Director of Athletics,
Laura LeMasters. "Since the team's return after the COVID hiatus, Christian has been an integral part of the rebuilding the program from the ground up. His dedication, leadership, and commitment to student-athlete success have already produced incredible results – including multiple NWAC standouts and athletes who have gone on to compete at four-year institutions. We're excited for the future of the program under his guidance and the continued excellence he will bring to our athletic department."
In his free time, Coach Igielinski enjoys spending his time hiking, camping, playing board games, and traveling across the country to visit family on the East Coast.
