VANCOUVER, Wash. - Penguins Cross Country and Track & Field welcome Max Baeder from Port Angeles High School in Port Angeles, WA!

Over the next several days, we're going to highlight our signings in the 2023 class. We continue today with the headliner of the men's class- Max Baeder. When asked why he chose to attend Clark, Max said "Clark has a great team, is affordable, and close to home. I look forward to starting my college career with them. Go Penguins!"

Over the past three years Max has been one of the best runners in the State at the 2A level. If not for COVID, he would have qualified for State all four years of high school. After finishing on the podium in 16th place as a junior, Max had another great year this season. He ran a PR of 16:13 at the Westside Classic to finish 5th and then followed it up with a 17th place finish at the State Championships this past weekend in Pasco. Clark Head Coach Owen Frasier sees Max as someone the program can build the rest of the recruiting class around. "Great runners want to be surrounded by other great athletes. It helps them push themselves, but also ensures the best chance for a successful team. Signing Max, who we think is one of the best runners is the State, will help us attract the other top runners we're recruiting. I know our current guys can't wait for him to join them!"

Max really is the total package who excels athletically, academically, and as a team leader for Port Angeles. Roughriders boys country coach Rodger Johnson absolutely beamed while describing what makes Max such a joy to coach. "He's just the best kid. He's such a hard worker, extremely coachable, and an amazing teammate. On top of all that I've had him in my science class and he's a great student too."
