VANCOUVER, Wash. - Clark Cross Country and Track & Field welcome Dani Buttrell from Vancouver School of the Arts and Fort Vancouver High School in Vancouver, WA!
Over the next several days, we're going to highlight our signings in the 2023 class. We continue today with a key member of the women's class- Dani Buttrell. When asked why she chose to attend Clark, Dani said "I picked Clark because I know I will be surrounded by family there. I am most excited to get to know my new teammates and continue to build my fitness."
Last week Dani completed one of the greatest cross country careers in Fort Vancouver history. After running a PR of 19:41 at State her freshman season, Dani continued to put up impressive times and became only the third Fort runner in school history to qualify for four State Championship Meets. Clark Head Coach Owen Frasier has a long history with Dani and the entire Buttrell family, a fact that's very important to him. "By signing Dani, we're not just signing a kid that we love and that means the world to us, we're also signing a family. Matt and Jody Buttrell are very special people to (assistant coach) Kailey Sears and I," Frasier said. "As far as Dani is concerned, my daughter absolutely idolizes her. Dani is very special to my whole family. We would have recruited her to Clark if she was the slowest runner in the State. The fact that she's actually one of the best runners in the State is icing on the cake."
Other highlights for Buttrell include her earning multiple all league awards while helping the Trappers win their first ever District Championship, as well as finish a school record high 4th place in the State her junior season. Having coached Dani in high school, Clark Assistant Coach Kailey Sears knows very well what Dani meant to the Fort program. "Dani took Fort cross country to new heights during her four years. She left a legacy as one of the most accomplished female athletes in school history; both individually, and as part of several of the school's greatest teams. We have a ton of confidence that she will do the same for Clark."
