Penguins Last Week, This Week

Recapping previous action and looking forward to upcoming events

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Another busy week for Penguin Athletics. In case you missed it, below is a breakdown of all the action from the last couple weeks and update on the current happenings.

WOMEN'S SOCCER (3-2)

The Penguins have transitioned into the West Region nicely, facing different competition from years past.

The ladies have outscored their opponents 28-9, losing only to Lower Columbia and Centralia.

Sophomore Anna Neal has tallied 9 goals and 3 assists, while Sophomore Kelli Huskic is close behind with 6 goals and 4 assists.

The Penguins have spread the wealth, with 9 individuals finding the back of the net on the season.

The women now head on the road for their next 6 matches.  First, taking on Green River Wednesday at 1:00pm.

MEN'S SOCCER (2-3)

Like the women, the Men's soccer team has joined the West Conference with the added element of a North/West agreement for conference play this season.  With a packed schedule of competition from both regions, the men faced off against top competition, right away.

With a couple long trips up North early, against Skagit & Everett, the Penguins saw the best of what the North has had to offer at the time, playing the top 4 teams in the league.

Since returning home the men have tallied two wins vs Shoreline & Edmonds.

With the West schedule quickly approaching, the strong competition from the North will work as a great barometer for the competition Clark will see moving into the Home & Away portion of their schedule.

The men next host South Puget Sound CC on Wednesday at 2:00pm at Kim Christensen Field.

VOLLEYBALL (1-1)

The volleyball team hosted their first conference weekend just before splitting off for the Crossover tournament this past weekend in Tacoma, WA.

The ladies defeated Southwestern Oregon 3-1 for their opener.  Falling the next day to Rogue 0-3.

The Penguins have seen competed against 8 NWAC schools this season, outside of their Southern Region schedule.  Finishing with a split 4-4 record.  Provides a great glimpse of what the post season may have to offer across all four regions, as they focus on their next conference competition.

The ladies hit the road Wednesday to take on Umpqua in conference play, then return home Friday to host Lane at 6:00pm in the O'Connell Sports Center.

CROSS COUNTRY

The distance runners have hit the path at two meets, so far into the season.  Competing primarily against four-year programs in both.  A great opportunity for our student-athletes to see where they stand and get exposure to the next level of runners.

They opened their season across the river at Portland State Universities meet.

Freshman, Gary Sherman for the men was the fastest Penguin finisher while Jane McNeil-Keubrich was the top finisher for the women.

They then went on to compete at Eastern Oregon Universities meet this past weekend, in La Grande, Oregon.

The Men's top finishers were Gary Sherman, Norman Hartman, and Evan Hebblethwaite.

On the Women's side, McNeil-Keubrich was the top finisher, with Chloe Crawford and Emily Anderson closely behind.

The cross country team will take a week off of competition this week.  Their next week is scheduled for Saturday, October 1 at the Charles Bowles invitational in Salem, Oregon hosted by Willamette University.  There they will see their first NWAC competition with Edmonds, Lane, Olympic, Southwestern Oregon, Spokane & Umpqua and scheduled to attend.
