VANCOUVER, Wash. – Another week Penguin Athletics. In case you missed it, below is a breakdown of all the action from the last week and update on the current happenings.
WOMEN'S SOCCER (6-2-1)
The women faced off against two tough west conference opponents, this week.
Wednesday, they traveled to Tukwila, WA to face the second place Highline team.
Keeping tradition, the ladies scored early on a goal by Chloe Klappholz, assisted by Shalece Easley. That goal would be the decider in the 1-0 road victory (boxscore).
They would follow that win, with a trip to Puyallup, WA facing pierce in their second match-up this season. Anna Neal would score the game winning goal in the 86th minute (boxscore).
Next up, the Penguins conclude their six game road schedule at the number 1 team in the west, Lower Columbia (6-0-3) followed by Tacoma (3-4-1).
MEN'S SOCCER (4-5-0)
The men hosted Bellevue on Wednesday. Pen Poppert scored the only goal for the penguins in the 2-1 loss (boxscore).
They would bounce back Saturday and take on South Puget Sound in a rematch from 10 days prior, with a dominating 6-0 win (boxscore). Six different players would score for the penguins, Max Schaeffer, Musa Jatta, Wilson Fresh, Jon-Morlai Sesay, Cody Cornejo, Abou-Bakar Berthe.
This week they are at home and face Pierce (0-7-0) followed by North conference opponent Peninsula (7-1-1).
VOLLEYBALL (3-3)
Volleyball spent last week on the road.
Starting off with Clackamas on Wednesday, winning 3-1 (boxscore)
Leaders of the match included Rachel Gallaher with 18 kills, 27 assists and 3 aces. Alana Gaalema had 20 digs.
They then traveled to Chemeketa, falling 1-3 to the storm (boxscore).
Stat leaders include Gallagher with 14 kills and 16 assists, Gaalema with 19 digs, Caroline Babcock with 6 blocks, followed by Iliana Bills with 5.
The ladies will be home both nights this week as they take on South Region leader, Linn-Benton (6-0) Wednesday and Mt Hood (3-3) Friday.
CROSS COUNTRY
After a couple weeks off, the cross country teams traveled to Salem, Oregon to compete in the Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational. The men finished 17th in the field. Top finishers were Freshman Norman Hartman 27:42.0 and Gary Sherman 27:42.8.
On the women's side, they finished 17th in the field as well. Top finishers were Jane McNeil-Kuebrich 20:18.8 and Emily Thompson 22:14.5.
The teams have this weekend off and will compete in the Lewis & Clark invitational on October 15.
