Penguins Perform Great at Southern Region Championships

ROSEBURG, OR - Clark College turned in a dominant performance at the NWAC Track & Field Regional Championships, highlighted by multiple event titles, relay victories and a series of standout finishes across both the men's and women's competitions.

The Penguins were especially strong on the track, where sophomore Koynn Williamdyke captured the men's 400-meter title in 49.75 seconds. Williamdyke also added a fifth-place finish in the 200 meters, helping lead a deep Clark sprint group throughout the meet.

Clark's hurdle crew also delivered one of the top performances of the championships. Sophomore Max Ensinger swept the hurdle events, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 14.85 seconds before adding another regional title in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.91 seconds. Freshman Niel Valerio completed a Clark one-two finish in the 110 hurdles by placing second in 15.84 seconds, while Poki'i Waiwaiole added a fourth-place finish.

In the field events, sophomore Nico Valdez earned runner-up honors in the men's discus with a throw of 43.83 meters and later placed sixth in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 43.70 meters. Wyatt Galipeau added two scoring performances for Clark, finishing seventh in both the shot put and discus.

The Penguins also received strong performances in the jumps, where Valerio placed third in the high jump at 1.77 meters and freshman Drayden Starke-Shaf finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 12.98 meters.

Clark's men also produced several strong relay and distance performances. The 4x100 relay team of Seth Arnett, Chris Garnett, Julian Johnson and Ian Ebinger finished fourth in 42.60 seconds, while the 4x400 relay squad of Clivine Abuya, Dekota Houfek, Ben Carter and Evan Hollis tied for fifth. Houfek added an impressive fifth-place finish in the 1,500 meters, while Abuya placed seventh in the 800.

On the women's side, Clark's sprint program dominated the regional meet.

Freshman Abby Mendoza captured regional titles in both the 100 meters and 200 meters, clocking personal-best times of 12.37 and 24.95 seconds. Sophomore Emily Peabody finished second in both events to give the Penguins a sweep of the top two spots in each sprint final.

Clark's women also shined in the relays, winning both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay championships. The quartet of Jaden Frazier, Peabody, Mendoza and Britney Ketels claimed the 4x100 title in 49.09 seconds, while Peabody, Mallory Davenport, Mendoza and Nico Field closed the meet with a victory in the 4x400 relay in 4:01.72.

Ketels added another podium finish in the 400 meters by placing third in a personal-best 1:03.47, while Davenport finished fourth and Myah Manzano took fifth to give Clark three of the top five finishers in the event.

Field events continued to be a strength for the Penguins. Freshman Jaden Frazier and Nora Herinckx tied for first and second, respectively, in the high jump after both cleared 1.52 meters. Victoria Yetter added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump and ninth in the long jump, while April Cruz scored in both horizontal jump events.

In the throws, freshman Ella Lulich placed fifth in the shot put and fourth in the discus to lead the Penguins, while Sophia Martin contributed top-12 finishes in both the discus and javelin.

Clark's distance runners also contributed key performances, led by Nico Field's fifth-place finish in the 800 meters and Mariposa Perez's sixth-place effort in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

The regional championships showcased the depth and versatility of the Clark program, with Penguins athletes producing victories, podium finishes and personal-best performances throughout the meet.
