Offensive Onslaught Leads to Penguin Win Over Umpqua

VANCOUVER, WA - Clark College closed its doubleheader at Raines Field on Sunday with a split against Umpqua, dropping the opener 7-1 before erupting for a dominant 12-5 win in the nightcap to finish the day on a high note in Vancouver.

After a quiet start in Game 1, Umpqua (7-25) broke things open with a four-run second inning and never looked back, capitalizing on defensive miscues and timely situational hitting to build a cushion. Clark (7-31) managed just three hits in the opener, but did break through in the third when Dajah Paz doubled in Delaney Bollman for the team's lone run. Umpqua starter Kasey Ogan kept Clark's offense off balance the rest of the way, scattering three hits and striking out two over a complete-game effort.

Despite the setback, Clark carried signs of life into Game 2—and it didn't take long for those flashes to turn into a full-blown offensive surge.

The Saints wasted no time flipping the script, exploding for six runs in the second inning to seize control early. Madison Logan, Delaney Bollman, Dajah Paz, Sophia Lawrence, and Rylee Purdom all delivered RBI hits in a relentless frame that featured gap-to-gap contact and aggressive baserunning. By the end of the inning, Clark had already matched its run total from Game 1—and then some.

Clark kept the pressure on throughout, adding runs in each of the next two innings. Paz continued her big day at the plate with multiple extra-base hits, while Lawrence drove in a pair and Purdom chipped in two RBIs of her own. The Saints built a 9-0 lead after four innings before Umpqua finally responded with a five-run push across the fifth and sixth innings, sparked largely by Jordan McArthur's extra-base production and Gracie Mello's clutch hitting.

But Clark answered right back in the sixth, sealing the game with a late three-run burst highlighted by Lovieanne Franco's two-run triple, stretching the lead back out of reach and putting the finishing touches on a 12-5 victory.

Kairi Rowand earned the win in the circle for Clark, working into the fifth inning before Delaney Bollman helped close things out in relief as the Saints combined to limit damage and work through traffic when needed.

The split showcased both sides of Clark's identity on the day: a struggle to generate offense in Game 1 followed by an aggressive, confident lineup that produced 12 hits and 12 runs in Game 2.

Clark leaves the doubleheader with momentum from the finale and continued contributions up and down the lineup, particularly in its middle-order bats, as the season heads into its final stretch.
