PORTLAND, Ore. — Clark College battled throughout but couldn't overcome a cold shooting night as Umpqua Community College pulled away for a 78-67 victory in conference action.
The Penguins showed defensive grit and strong individual efforts, but Umpqua's advantage on the boards and timely scoring runs proved decisive down the stretch.
Tristan Pratt led Clark with an efficient 25-point performance, shooting 9-of-14 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. The sophomore guard also contributed eight rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in a strong all-around effort.
Ari Richardson added 19 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for a double-double, going a perfect 7-for-7 from the stripe. Micah Gentry chipped in 11 points, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc, while Noah Tostovrsnik contributed 11 points and 12 rebounds to give the Penguins a second double-double on the night.
Clark shot 86.7 percent from the free-throw line (13-of-15), continuing a trend of efficiency at the stripe. However, the Penguins struggled from the field overall, finishing at 36.4 percent, including 28.6 percent from three-point range.
Umpqua leaned on a balanced offensive attack, placing four starters in double figures.
Clark stayed within striking distance for much of the contest, but a key second-half run by Umpqua created separation that the Penguins couldn't close.
Despite the setback, Clark was able to clinch a playoff spot due to losses from around the NWAC. With a bye for the final day of the season, they must wait unitl Wednesday night to finalize their seed and find out what day and time they will be opening the NWAC Tournament next week.
