Clark College battled on the boards behind a monster effort from Emily Peabody, but Clackamas' depth and rebounding advantage proved too much in an 88-64 loss Wednesday night.
Peabody delivered one of her strongest performances of the season, pouring in a game-high 28 points while grabbing 14 rebounds in 39 minutes. The sophomore forward went 9 of 28 from the field and 8 of 10 from the free-throw line, accounting for nearly half of Clark's offensive production and consistently fighting through contact in the paint.
Mia Hicks-Oliver added 14 points and five rebounds, while April Cruz chipped in nine points on an efficient 3-of-5 shooting night. Reaiah Hall contributed eight points and four rebounds as Clark's starting unit logged heavy minutes in the matchup.
Clark struggled to find its rhythm offensively, shooting 34.3 percent from the field and just 2 of 16 from three-point range. The Penguins did convert 16 of 24 free throws and pulled down 42 rebounds, including 12 on the offensive glass, but 19 turnovers limited their ability to sustain momentum.
Clackamas countered with balance and size, finishing with a commanding 53-42 advantage on the boards. Mae Washington led the way with 20 points and a dominant 19-rebound performance, controlling the paint on both ends. Mollie Miller added 19 points, including five three-pointers, while Alana Washington chipped in 10 points and five rebounds. Grace Hayashida orchestrated the offense with six assists.
Clackamas shot 43 percent from the floor and knocked down nine three-pointers, building separation over the middle quarters. The hosts also assisted on 26 of 34 made field goals, showcasing efficient ball movement that stretched Clark's defense.
Despite the final margin, Clark continued to compete throughout, highlighted by Peabody's relentless inside presence and active defensive effort that produced eight steals.
Clark will look to regroup and tighten its offensive execution as it prepares for its next contest.
