SALEM — Mia Hicks-Oliver turned in a strong all-around performance, but Clark College was unable to keep pace with Chemeketa's hot shooting in an 81–63 setback on Monday.
Hicks-Oliver logged all 40 minutes and led the Penguins with 23 points, attacking the paint and getting to the free-throw line throughout the night. She finished 9-of-12 at the stripe, added nine rebounds, and came up with four steals, anchoring Clark's effort on both ends of the floor.
Emily Peabody provided another steady presence, scoring 16 points and pulling down seven rebounds, while knocking down a pair of three-pointers. Yazmin Rios contributed eight points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two blocks, giving Clark a physical presence inside, and Ashley Serna added five rebounds and a block in limited minutes.
Clark battled on the glass, finishing with 36 rebounds and 11 offensive boards, creating second-chance opportunities against a deep Chemeketa lineup. The Penguins also showed discipline at the free-throw line, converting 18-of-22 attempts (81.8%), which helped keep the game within reach.
Chemeketa pulled away behind a balanced scoring attack, led by Ava Rubio's 23 points and Patricia Mike's 22, while shooting 50 percent from three-point range. The Storm's efficiency proved decisive as Clark struggled to find consistency from the field.
Despite the result, the Penguins showed resilience and energy, with Hicks-Oliver setting the tone and several players contributing across the stat sheet as Clark continues to gain experience and build momentum heading into its next outing.
