PORTLAND, Ore. — Clark College battled through a tough shooting night but continued to compete on the defensive end in a 77–40 loss to Clackamas on Saturday.
The Penguins struggled to find an offensive rhythm, shooting 24.6 percent from the field, but showed resilience on the glass and in transition defense against a Clackamas squad that placed three players in double figures.
Sophomore guard Emily Peabody led Clark with 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, recording a double-double while logging all 40 minutes. The double-double was the fifteenth of her career, which broke the previous school record of fourteen, which was held by current Penguin assistant coach Neriah Efferson. Also in the game, Peabody connected on two free throws in the third quarter which broke the school record for points in a career. On top of that, Peabody consistently attacked the boards, pulling down 13 of Clark's 40 total rebounds and adding three steals on the defensive end.
Reaiah Hall finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, providing energy on both ends and battling inside despite giving up size. Hall also grabbed three offensive rebounds, helping Clark generate second-chance opportunities.
Defensively, Clark forced 14 Clackamas turnovers and was active in passing lanes, led by Yazmin Rios and Haley Braae, who combined for three steals. Ashley Serna added seven rebounds off the bench, continuing to give Clark a physical presence inside.
Clackamas was paced by Alana Washington and Mae Washington, who each scored 20 points, while Brezlyn Schwalm knocked down five three-pointers to help the Cougars pull away.
Despite the final score, Clark showed toughness on the boards, out rebounding Clackamas 40–32, and continued to defend for all four quarters.
The Penguins will look to regroup and carry that defensive effort into their next match up as they continue conference play.
