Shorthanded Penguins Fall to Linn Benton 58-50

PORTLAND - Playing their second straight game without star sophomore guard Mia Hicks-Oliver, Clark College put together a gritty defensive effort but came up short in a 58–50 loss to Linn-Benton on Wednesday night, battling through a physical contest that stayed tight well into the second half.

Emily Peabody led all scorers with 26 points and nine rebounds, carrying the offensive load while attacking the paint and getting to the free-throw line. The sophomore guard converted 7-of-8 at the stripe and added six offensive rebounds, keeping Clark within striking distance throughout.

Despite struggling from the field, the Penguins competed on the glass and on the defensive end. Clark limited Linn-Benton to just 29.5 percent shooting and forced 20 turnovers, creating extra possessions and transition chances. April Cruz anchored the defense with four steals and six assists, while also pulling down four rebounds and setting the tempo at point guard.

Yazmin Rios added six points and six rebounds, and Ashley Serna provided a spark off the bench with seven points, five rebounds, and a block in extended minutes. Reaiah Hall battled inside, finishing with six rebounds, four on the offensive end, helping Clark earn second-chance opportunities.

Linn-Benton was paced by Sadie Wendring's 27 points, but Clark's defense kept the rest of the Roadrunners in check, holding them to just four made three-pointers on the night.

Although the shots didn't fall consistently, the Penguins showed resilience, toughness, and defensive discipline, traits that will carry forward as they continue conference play.
