Penguins Start Strong but Fall to Lane on the Road

EUGENE, Ore. — Clark College showed grit on the defensive end and battled for 40 minutes, but Lane Community College's shooting depth and rebounding edge proved decisive in a 73–52 decision.

The Penguins leaned on balanced contributions across the lineup, with Reaiah Hall leading the way offensively. The freshman guard scored a team-high 16 points, knocking down two three-pointers and going 6-for-8 at the free-throw line while playing 35 minutes. Clark's ability to get to the stripe kept the game within reach during key stretches, as the Penguins converted 15 of 19 free throws on the night.

Defensively, Clark was active in the passing lanes and on the perimeter. April Cruz filled the stat sheet with 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals, setting the tone with her energy on both ends. Emily Peabody added 12 points and eight rebounds, including a perfect 6-for-6 performance from the free-throw line, while Yazmin Rios chipped in seven points, six rebounds and four steals, helping Clark generate transition opportunities.

Clark also received a strong effort off the bench from Alex Rosenbaum, who pulled down seven rebounds in 20 minutes, contributing to the Penguins' total of 34 boards.

Lane ultimately pulled away behind efficient three-point shooting and a 49–34 rebounding advantage, which led to second-chance points and extra possessions. Clark forced 22 Lane turnovers and recorded 15 steals, but struggled to convert consistently from the field, shooting 27.4 percent overall.

Despite the result, the Penguins' defensive pressure, hustle plays and trips to the free-throw line highlighted their competitive effort. Clark will look to build on that energy as it prepares for its next conference match up.
