Penguins Open Home Slate with 2-1 Victory over Centralia

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Clark College men's soccer opened their home schedule in dramatic fashion Saturday afternoon, earning a 2-1 victory over Centralia College at Kim Christensen Field on the campus of Clark College.

The Penguins controlled possession throughout, firing off 31 shots – 18 of them on target – compared to just 12 total attempts for the Trailblazers. Clark broke through first in the 35th minute when Isaiah Bunda found the back of the net for his first goal of the season, giving the Penguins a 1-0 advantage.

Centralia answered quickly, equalizing just three minutes later on a strike from Mario Silva Gutierre, assisted by Carlos Angel Hernand, sending the match into halftime tied 1-1.

Clark kept up relentless pressure in the second half, outshooting the Trailblazers 17-3. Their persistence paid off in the 88th minute, when Travis O'Hara delivered the game-winner, scoring his first goal of the year to the delight of the home crowd.

Between the pipes, goalkeepers Glenn Kolibas and Patrick Murphy combined for seven saves, with Murphy securing the clean sheet in the second half. Defensively, the Penguins backline limited Centralia to just two shots on goal after halftime.

The win moves Clark to 1-0-2 overall and in NWAC play, while Centralia drops to 1-6 on the year (1-2 in NWAC play).

Clark returns to action on Wednesday, when they host the Clippers of South Puget Sound at 2:00pm.
