VANCOUVER, Wash. – Clark College women's soccer leaned on a gritty defensive effort and a stellar performance from goalkeeper Ella Lulich to secure a 0-0 draw against Centralia on Saturday afternoon at Kim Christensen Field.
Lulich was the difference-maker for the Penguins, recording 13 saves, including 10 in the second half, to preserve the shutout. The freshman keeper faced relentless pressure as Centralia out shot Clark, but she stood tall in goal, frustrating the Trailblazers' attack throughout the 90 minutes. Despite being out shot, Clark generated quality chances of its own. Zaiah Menlove put all three of her attempts on target, while Lainey Haden and Elsa Bice also tested Centralia's back line. The Penguins' best stretch came midway through the second half, when they forced a pair of saves and earned a corner kick to keep the pressure on.
The match grew increasingly physical in the second half. Centralia was issued three yellow cards and one red card, going down a player in the 70th minute after Celestine Allsup was sent off. Clark's Isabel McCauley also received a late yellow in the 79th minute. With the draw, Clark moves to 2-1-1 overall and in NWAC play, keeping pace near the top of the South Region standings. Centralia stands at 2-1-2 overall, 1-1-2 in league action.
The Penguins will look to build on their defensive momentum when they return to conference play next weekend for a West Region match at Green River at 5pm.
