LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Clark College women's soccer turned a slow start into an explosive finish Wednesday evening, rallying past Pierce College for a commanding 4-1 Northwest Athletic Conference victory at Heritage Field.
After conceding the opening goal in the 12th minute to Pierce's Kameryn Norton, the Penguins settled in and dominated the second half. Freshman Jaleyah Pitre sparked the comeback just two minutes into the second frame, burying the equalizer off an assist from Zaiah Menlove.
From there, Clark took control. Sophomore forward Bella Rodriguez struck twice in a three-minute span, finishing clinical chances in the 65th and 67th minutes to give Clark a 3-1 cushion. Rodriguez's brace included the game-winner and swung the momentum firmly in the Penguins' favor.
Clark put the match away late when Nora Herinckx scored in the 90th minute, capping off a strong setup from Pitre.
Goalkeepers Ella Lullich and Jessica Garcia-Cruz combined for 10 saves on the night, with Lullich stopping nine shots in nearly 80 minutes of action before Garcia-Cruz closed out the win.
The Penguins outshot the Raiders 13-16 but were far more clinical in front of goal, putting 11 of their 13 shots on frame. Clark's defense stood tall in the second half, weathering 11 Pierce attempts without conceding.
The victory lifts Clark to 2-1-0 (2-1-0 NWAC) on the season, while Pierce falls to 0-5-2 overall and 0-2-1 in conference play.
Clark continues NWAC action this weekend when they host their next conference match-up at 2:30pm against Centralia.
