Clark Splits with Grays Harbor at Home

VANCOUVER, WA - Game 1 - In a dominant display, Clark College's softball team secured a decisive 9-2 victory over Grays Harbor College today. The Penguins capitalized early, setting the tone with a commanding lead that Grays Harbor couldn't overcome.

From the outset, Clark's offense was firing on all cylinders, highlighted by standout performances from Promise Bond and Ashley Griffith. Bond's triple in the first inning sparked a scoring frenzy, with three runs crossing the plate to give Clark an early advantage. Griffith continued the onslaught with key hits, including a double that drove in crucial runs.

Pitcher Lily Ferres anchored Clark's defense, holding Grays Harbor to just two runs over seven innings while striking out one batter. Ferres's strong outing, combined with Clark's solid defensive play, ensured their lead remained unchallenged throughout the game.

Despite a late-game surge from Grays Harbor, including a home run from Carron Blood in the fourth inning, Clark's early offensive barrage proved insurmountable. Grays Harbor's efforts fell short against Clark's cohesive performance on both offense and defense.

Game 2 - Despite a strong start and a late push in the seventh inning, the Clark Penguins fell to Grays Harbor 11-7 on Saturday afternoon.

Clark wasted no time getting on the board, scoring three runs in the first inning. Gabriela Ventura led the charge with a lead-off single before Promise Bond followed suit with a hit of his own. Ventura came around to score on an RBI sacrifice fly from Ashley Griffith, and two more runs crossed the plate on a pair of wild pitches, giving Clark an early 3-1 lead.

The Penguins held the advantage until the fifth inning when Grays Harbor exploded for six runs, shifting the momentum. Clark starter Delaney Bollman (1-4) kept the game close through four innings, but Grays Harbor's offense broke through in the fifth with a string of extra-base hits, including a three-RBI double from A. Chitty.

Despite the deficit, Clark continued to battle. Ventura had a standout game, going 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, and an RBI. Bond also put together a strong performance, finishing 3-for-3 with a triple, an RBI, and a stolen base. The Penguins attempted a comeback in the seventh, as Rylee Purdom reached on an error and Ventura doubled him home. Bond followed with a triple to drive in another run before Griffith brought him in on a sacrifice fly, cutting the deficit to 11-7.

On the mound, Bollman took the loss, allowing six runs over 4.1 innings, while relievers Isabela Weibe, Tessa Treesh, and Lily Ferres combined to finish the game. The bullpen limited damage late, but Clark's early miscues and Grays Harbor's power surge proved too much to overcome.

Clark (5-13) will look to regroup in their next contest, aiming to build on their offensive success and tighten up defensively.
