Clark Outlasts the Storm on the Road

SALEM, Ore. - Game 1 - The Clark Penguins (6-13) exploded offensively early and withstood a furious seventh-inning rally from Chemeketa (9-14) to secure an 11-10 victory on Wednesday afternoon.

Clark's offense came alive in the third inning, where they plated five runs behind key hits from Ashley Griffith (2-for-3, 3 RBI, 2B) and Paige Scoggin (1-for-4, 2 RBI, 2B). They continued to apply pressure throughout, with Ashlynn Runnels (3-for-4, 4 RBI, 2 2B) anchoring the lineup.

The Penguins jumped out to a 7-0 lead by the third and continued to add on, scoring in five different innings. Gabriela Ventura (2-for-5, 3B, 2 R) set the tone at the top of the order, while Promise Bond (2-for-5, RBI, 2 SB) showcased his speed on the base paths.

On the mound, Delaney Bollman (7.0 IP, 9 H, 8 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) picked up the win despite a rocky final inning, where Chemeketa nearly completed an improbable comeback. The Storm struck for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh, capped by A. Wilsey's (3-for-5, 3 RBI, 3B) three-run triple.

However, after Zoey Mikkelsen briefly took the mound, Bollman returned to close the door, securing the final out and Clark's much-needed victory.

Game 2 - In a game filled with offensive fireworks, Clark College stormed back from an early deficit to overpower Chemeketa, 17-11, on Wednesday evening. Behind a relentless offensive attack and a nine-run fifth inning, the Penguins improved to 7-13 on the season (5-7 NWAC).

Clark's offense erupted for 17 hits, led by a monster performance from Delaney Bollman, who went 5-for-5 with four RBIs, including a key two-run single in the third that helped shift momentum. Paige Scoggin also played a pivotal role, launching a two-run home run in the fifth that capped off the Penguins' explosive rally.

After falling behind 6-1 in the first inning, Clark methodically chipped away before unleashing a nine-run fifth to seize control. Sophia Lawrence contributed with three hits and five RBIs, including a bases-clearing single that broke the game open. Promise Bond added three hits and three RBIs, while Gabriela Ventura and Scoggin each drove in multiple runs.

On the mound, Lily Ferres (4-1) picked up the win despite early struggles, with Tessa Treesh providing 3.2 innings of crucial scoreless relief to steady the game for Clark.

Chemeketa (9-15) fought back with an impressive first inning, highlighted by Z. Moore's two-run single and a triple from A. Long, but their bullpen struggled to contain Clark's relentless offense.

Clark will look to carry its offensive momentum into its road series at Southwestern Oregon on Friday, April 4th.
