KELSO, WA – The Clark softball team faced a tough challenge on Saturday, dropping both games of a doubleheader against undefeated Lower Columbia at Heerensperger Field. The Penguins struggled at the plate and in the field, unable to find their rhythm against the dominant Red Devils.
In the first game, Clark was held scoreless in a 16-0 loss that ended in five innings. The Penguins managed just three hits in the contest, with Paige Scoggin providing the lone extra-base hit, a double. Ashlynn Runnels and Sophia Lawrence each recorded a hit as well, but Clark was unable to string together any offensive momentum. On the mound, Clark's pitching staff was overwhelmed, surrendering 18 hits and allowing 16 runs over four innings.
The second game followed a similar script, as Clark was no-hit in a 10-0 loss. The Penguins failed to reach base and struck out eight times against Lower Columbia's dominant pitching. Defensive struggles also plagued Clark, as they committed three errors in the game.
Despite the tough outing, Clark will look to regroup and bounce back in their next matchup, when they host Umpqua at Raines Field, Tuesday at 2:00PM. The Penguins, now 2-10 on the season, will seek to find their offensive rhythm and tighten up defensively as they move forward in league play.
