Penguins Stage Stunning Ninth-Inning Comeback to Defeat Blue Mountain

PENDLETON, Ore - In a dramatic late-game rally, the Clark baseball team pulled off a stunning 11-6 victory over Blue Mountain on Friday afternoon. Trailing 6-1 entering the eighth inning, the visiting Penguins erupted for a combined 11 runs in the final two frames to secure the comeback win.

Clark's offense had been largely stifled through seven innings but found life in the top of the eighth when Landon Criste tripled with the bases loaded, driving in three crucial runs to cut the deficit to 6-4. The momentum carried over into the ninth, where the Penguins capitalized on Blue Mountain's fielding miscues and timely hitting to explode for 10 runs, putting the game out of reach.

Criste finished the game 1-for-5 but made his lone hit count in a big way, racking up four RBIs. Trevin Long and Jase Pashales each contributed two runs to the offensive onslaught, while Andrew Israel's late-game double helped keep the rally alive. Clark finished the game with just four hits but made the most of their opportunities, drawing eight hit-by-pitches and six walks.

On the mound, the Penguins' bullpen held strong after early struggles. Starter Luke Woolcott pitched 2.2 innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out two. Tyler Ramelli took over in relief, working 4.2 innings, but it was Mason Wright who earned the win, pitching the final 0.2 innings and keeping Blue Mountain scoreless in the ninth. Clark's pitchers combined for six strikeouts and limited the Timberwolves to seven hits.

Blue Mountain appeared in control for much of the game, scoring in the third, sixth, and eighth innings to build their lead. E. Gant led the way with a 3-for-3 performance, adding an RBI and a stolen base. However, their bullpen faltered late, struggling with command and allowing Clark to capitalize on key mistakes.

With the win, Clark moves to 4-5 on the season, while Blue Mountain falls to 5-6. The Penguins will look to build on their momentum as they continue their road trip.  Game two of Friday's double-header was canceled, due to weather.  The two will finish their series with a double-header Saturday, March 22nd.
