VANCOUVER, Wash. - The Clark College Penguins soared to a decisive 81-51 win over Linn-Benton on Monday night at the O'Connell Sports Center, bouncing back in spectacular fashion and bolstering their record to 13-14 overall and 5-9 in conference play.
From the opening tip, Clark set the tempo, outscoring Linn-Benton 17-14 in the first quarter and ramping it up even more in the second with a commanding 21-7 run. By halftime, the Penguins held a comfortable 38-21 lead and never looked back.
The offensive charge was led by
Emily Peabody, who lit up the scoreboard with a game-high 24 points, knocking down four three-pointers and adding six rebounds to her stellar performance.
Mia Hicks-Oliver followed suit, contributing 16 points and grabbing five boards, showcasing her ability to attack both the paint and the perimeter.
Clark's defense was relentless, forcing 22 turnovers and converting them into 25 points. They also dominated the glass, pulling down 55 rebounds — 26 of them on the offensive end — leading to 23 second-chance points.
The depth of the Penguins' roster was on full display, with
Ella Botnar recording a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, while
Jayda Jackson added 10 points of her own along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Linn-Benton struggled to find their rhythm offensively, shooting just 26.7% from the field and 21.4% from beyond the arc. Despite a 17-point effort from Katelynn Weaver, the Roadrunners couldn't overcome Clark's aggressive defense and fast-paced play.
With the win, Clark looks to carry this momentum into their next matchup as they continue their push through the conference season.
