VANCOUVER, Wash. - The Clark College Penguins delivered a dominant second-half performance to defeat the Chemeketa Storm 80-66 on Wednesday night at O'Connell Sports Complex. With the victory, Clark improves to 15-14 on the season and 7-9 in NWAC play.
Chemeketa (19-10, 8-8) started the game strong, surging to a 27-19 lead after the first quarter behind hot shooting from beyond the arc. The Storm extended their lead to as much as 17 points midway through the second quarter, but Clark clawed its way back before halftime, closing the gap to 45-37.
The Penguins turned up the intensity in the second half, outscoring Chemeketa 20-8 in the third quarter to take a 57-53 lead.
Emily Peabody led the charge with 21 points and 10 rebounds, dominating the paint and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities. Clark's defense also came alive, forcing 28 Chemeketa turnovers and converting them into 34 points.
Ella Botnar provided a huge boost off the bench, contributing 16 points and 11 rebounds, while
Jayda Jackson added 10 points, seven rebounds, and four steals. Clark's aggressive defense led to 17 steals and six blocks, shutting down Chemeketa's offense in the second half.
The Penguins sealed the game in the fourth quarter, outscoring Chemeketa 23-13 behind strong play from Peabody and
Payton Allen, who finished with 11 points. Clark's ability to control the boards, with a 43-32 rebounding advantage, played a crucial role in their comeback.
The Penguins end their season with a solid win and now turn their attention to the offseason and preperations for their next season.
