VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Clark College Penguins put up a determined fight but were unable to overcome the undefeated Lane Community College Titans, falling 83-66 at O'Connell Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.
Lane (22-0, 9-0 NWAC) asserted control early, jumping to a 21-10 lead after the first quarter and maintaining a double-digit cushion throughout the game. Despite a valiant effort from Clark (10-12, 2-7 NWAC), the Penguins could not close the gap against the top-ranked Titans.
Clark struggled to find offensive consistency in the first half, trailing 46-27 at the break. However, the Penguins showed resilience in the second half, outscoring Lane 22-19 in the fourth quarter to finish strong.
Freshman forward Emily Peabody led the charge for the Penguins, contributing 10 points and seven rebounds. Ella Botnar also provided a spark with 11 points and four rebounds, while Oria Boyd chipped in 10 points and three assists. The Penguins' defensive intensity was evident, as they recorded 16 steals, with Eliana Fleming collecting three of them.
Despite their defensive pressure, Clark was unable to slow down Lane's balanced offensive attack. The Titans were led by Micah Wicks, who posted a game-high 23 points and five assists. Lillee Duffin controlled the boards with 12 rebounds to go along with 17 points. Lane's efficiency from beyond the arc (41.4%) proved to be a key difference-maker.
Clark shot 35.0% from the field and 35.3% from three-point range but struggled at the free-throw line, converting just 57.1% of their attempts. Lane capitalized on turnovers, scoring 13 points off Clark's 17 giveaways.
The Penguins will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they continue NWAC play. Despite the loss, Clark showed flashes of strong team play and determination, which they will build on moving forward.
