VANCOUVER, Wash. – In a game filled with momentum swings, clutch performances, and a dramatic overtime period, Clark College edged out Lane Community College, 109-107, in a Northwest Athletic Conference showdown at the O'Connell Sports Center on Saturday evening.
Trailing early, the Penguins (15-6, 7-2 NWAC) fought back from a 21-point first-half deficit behind standout performances from Anthony Sprauer and Jackson Esary. Sprauer led all scorers with 34 points and 10 rebounds, while Esary contributed 28 points, eight rebounds, and three steals, providing the spark Clark needed to complete the comeback.
Lane (15-5, 6-3 NWAC) came out firing, building an early double-digit lead behind Ben Thornbrue's dominant inside presence. He finished with 27 points and seven rebounds, but foul trouble limited his impact down the stretch. Despite a strong team effort, the Titans struggled to hold off Clark's second-half surge.
Clark turned up the defensive intensity after halftime, forcing key turnovers and limiting Lane's transition game. Theo McMillan was a force on both ends, recording 26 points and 12 assists while battling through foul trouble. His leadership in the backcourt helped orchestrate Clark's late-game execution.
In overtime, Clark took its first lead of more than a basket with just over a minute remaining when Sprauer converted a tough layup in the paint. Lane had a chance to tie in the closing seconds, but a last-second three-point attempt bounced off the rim, securing Clark's victory.
The win keeps Clark in the hunt for the NWAC South Division title, improving their conference record to 7-2. The Penguins will look to build on this momentum when they travel to face Clackamas, Wednesday.
Up Next: Clark College will hit the road for another key NWAC matchup against Clackamas (10-12, 4-5 NWAC), aiming to continue their strong play as the regular season winds down.
