BELLEVUE - A strong all-around performance from Emily Peabody wasn't quite enough as Clark College fell 77–71 to Green River in a hard-fought contest at the Bellevue Holiday Tournament.
Peabody turned in a standout afternoon for the Penguins, finishing with a game-high 25 points while adding 10 rebounds for a double-double. The sophomore was active on both ends of the floor, going 10-of-19 from the field and pulling down four offensive boards to give Clark multiple second-chance opportunities.
Freshman Yazmin Rios delivered her best performance at Clark, scoring 17 points on efficient 7-of-14 shooting while contributing eight rebounds and five assists. Rios' play making helped Clark stay within striking distance throughout, especially during stretches when the Penguins were able to push the tempo.
Mia Hicks-Oliver and Reaiah Hall each chipped in 10 points, with Hall adding four assists as Clark worked to generate offense against Green River's defensive pressure. Lainey Haden provided a spark off the bench, scoring five points and recording two steals in 14 minutes.
Clark finished the game shooting 42.6 percent from the floor and held its own on the glass, out rebounding Green River 38–36. The Penguins also showed discipline defensively, recording seven steals.
Despite the loss, Clark's balanced effort and strong interior play kept the game close until the final minutes. The Penguins will look to build on Peabody's dominant performance and continue to sharpen their perimeter defense as they prepare for their next match up.
