Strong Third Quarter Not Enough as Clark College Falls to Lower Columbia

PORTLAND — Clark College delivered a strong response coming out of halftime, but a decisive fourth quarter by Lower Columbia lifted the Red Devils to an 89–73 win over the Penguins on Wednesday evening at PCC–Cascade.

Clark held a slim 22–20 lead after the first quarter before Lower Columbia surged in the second, outscoring the Penguins 31–11 to take control at the break. Clark answered with its best stretch of the night in the third quarter, using balanced scoring and defensive energy to win the period 29–12 and pull back within striking distance.

Emily Peabody led the Penguins with a team-high 25 points and 11 rebounds, posting a double-double while going 11-for-13 from the free-throw line. Mia Hicks-Oliver added 24 points and 12 rebounds, also recording a double-double as Clark consistently attacked the paint and controlled the glass.

Despite being out rebounded in the first half, Clark finished with 45 rebounds, including 17 on the offensive end, creating multiple second-chance opportunities. Alex Rosenbaum provided a spark off the bench with nine points, five rebounds, and five assists, while Lainey Haden and Reaiah Hall each contributed four points and strong defensive minutes.

Lower Columbia regained momentum in the fourth quarter, outscoring Clark 26–11 behind efficient shooting and timely perimeter scoring.

Clark shot 38.0 percent overall and battled through a cold night from beyond the arc, finishing 4-for-21 from three. Even so, the Penguins' effort on the boards and ability to get to the free-throw line kept them competitive into the final period.

Clark will look to build on its strong third-quarter performance and interior production as it continues its schedule moving forward.
