Clark College got a win in the second game of the NWAC Crossover with an 84–79 victory over Wenatchee Valley on Saturday at Green River College, riding a balanced offensive effort and strong work on the glass.
The Penguins (1–5) set the tone early, using aggressive play in the paint to build a first-quarter advantage and maintain control through halftime. Clark scored 44 of its 84 points in the paint and finished with a 46–40 rebounding edge, including 18 offensive boards that generated key second-chance opportunities
Mia Hicks-Oliver led all scorers with a dominant all-around performance, pouring in 28 points on 12-of-22 shooting while pulling down 14 rebounds for a double-double. She was especially effective in the middle quarters, scoring 26 of her 28 points before the final period
Emily Peabody provided another major boost, finishing with 27 points and seven rebounds, while knocking down timely shots to keep Wenatchee Valley from gaining momentum. Yazmin Rios added energy on both ends with 10 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists before fouling out, and Katie Colipano anchored the interior with 16 rebounds and three assists
Clark took advantage of turnovers, scoring 20 points off Wenatchee Valley miscues, and held a 10-point lead late in the first quarter. Wenatchee Valley made several runs behind Izzy Blossom's 22 points, but the Penguins consistently answered, including a 45-point third quarter combined that kept Clark in front entering the closing minutes
Despite shooting just 21.7 percent from three-point range, Clark's interior scoring, rebounding edge and ability to get to the free-throw line proved decisive as the Penguins held on down the stretch to secure the five-point win.
