Pengruins Drop Opener of NWAC Crossover

Clark College showed defensive grit and late fight, but couldn't overcome a cold shooting night and turnover trouble in a 67–46 loss to Peninsula on Friday night at Green River College in Auburn, Washington.

The Penguins forced 31 Peninsula turnovers and finished with 17 steals, keeping the game competitive through the first half and into the third quarter. Clark trailed just 24–19 at halftime after holding Peninsula to 24 points over the opening 20 minutes.

Reaiah Hall led Clark offensively with a game-high 19 points, knocking down three three-pointers and attacking the rim throughout the night. Hall added six rebounds, three steals and a block, while playing 31 minutes. Emily Peabody provided a strong all-around effort with 12 points, nine rebounds and two assists, and Mia Hicks-Oliver chipped in eight points, six rebounds and four steals.

Clark's defense set the tone early, jumping passing lanes and creating transition opportunities. April Cruz recorded four steals, while Yazmin Rios added three steals and a block anchoring the interior. The Penguins also won several hustle battles, finishing with 13 offensive rebounds.

Peninsula began to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring Clark 19–13, and then sealed the game with a 24-point fourth quarter. Clark struggled to find rhythm offensively, shooting 29.3 percent from the field and committing 29 turnovers, which limited its ability to close the gap late.

Despite the final score, Clark showed positive signs, particularly on the defensive end, holding Peninsula to just 42.6 percent shooting and forcing mistakes throughout the night.

The Penguins will look to build on their defensive intensity and continue to clean up possessions as they move forward in the NWAC Crossover.
