SALEM, Ore. — The Clark College volleyball team pushed Chemeketa to the brink on Thursday night, falling 3–2 (25–13, 14–25, 17–25, 25–21, 14–16) in a back-and-forth NWAC match-up at the Storm Center.
The Penguins came out strong, dominating the opening set 25–13 behind efficient hitting and a balanced attack. After dropping the next two frames, Clark regrouped to take the fourth 25–21, forcing a decisive fifth set that went down to the wire before Chemeketa escaped with a 16–14 win.
Freshman outside hitter Abigail Heberle led Clark with 19 kills while hitting .275, pacing the offense throughout the match. Kylie Miller added 11 kills and four blocks, and Mia Hicks-Oliver contributed 11 kills as the Penguins spread the scoring across the front row.
Setter Taylee Wilson was again a force in distribution, dishing out 41 assists, adding two aces and eight digs. Libero Emelynn Cecil anchored the back row with a match-high 38 digs, while Araia Lim chipped in nine digs and four service aces to fuel Clark's serve game.
The Penguins tallied 51 kills, nine aces, and 83 digs as a team, hitting .183 overall.
Clark (8–20, 4–10 NWAC South) will return home this week for their final two matches of the season.
