Clark College Holds Off South Puget Sound for 1–0 Road Win

Lacey, Wash. — October 8, 2025

Clark College men's soccer continued its strong NWAC form with a gritty 1–0 road win over South Puget Sound on Wednesday afternoon.

The Penguins struck early when Hulises Najera netted the match's lone goal in the 18th minute, finishing off a well-placed assist from Isaiah Bunda. The goal proved to be the difference as Clark's defense held firm for the remaining 70 minutes.

Goalkeeper Patrick Murphy recorded a clean sheet with five saves, including several key stops in the second half as the Clippers pressed for an equalizer. Clark's backline—anchored by Bunda, Hakim Keita, and Kaito Thammavong—weathered 15 shots from South Puget Sound to preserve the shutout.

The Penguins generated 10 total shots, with Najera, Pablo Barbosa-Sanchez, and Lucas Mallett leading the attack. Hazim Huskic nearly doubled Clark's lead midway through the second half when his strike rattled the post.

The match grew physical down the stretch, featuring multiple yellow cards, but Clark stayed composed defensively to secure the victory and improve to 6–1–3 overall (6–1–3 NWAC West Region).

Clark returns to action later this week as it continues conference play at Tacoma CC on October 11th at 12:00pm.
