GRESHAM, Ore. — The Clark College volleyball team showed poise and resilience on Saturday afternoon, rallying past Mt. Hood Community College in a five-set battle (21-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-17, 15-9) to secure a key NWAC South Region victory.
Sophomore Abigail Heberle powered the Penguins' offense with a dominant performance, racking up 20 kills on .340 hitting, while setter Taylee Wilson orchestrated the attack with 40 assists and added 10 digs and two blocks. Mia Hicks-Oliver was steady at the net with 12 kills and a .229 hitting percentage, while Kylie Miller chipped in 10 kills and five blocks.
Defensively, Emelynn Cecil was outstanding in the back row, tallying 33 digs to anchor Clark's defense, and Araia Lim added 15 digs of her own.
After dropping two of the first three sets, the Penguins found their rhythm in the fourth, hitting an impressive .303 and rolling to a 25-17 win to force a deciding fifth. Clark carried that momentum into the final frame, using balanced scoring and a stifling defense to close out the 15-9 clincher.
As a team, Clark hit .191 with 54 kills, 103 digs, and seven blocks on the day — improving their record to 7-14 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
The Penguins will look to build on the momentum when they return home next week for another key South Region matchup against Southwestern on Friday.
