VANCOUVER, WA – The Clark Penguins gave it their all in front of their home crowd, battling fiercely against a strong Clackamas squad but ultimately falling short, 78-64, in NWAC action on Wednesday night.
Clark's tenacity was evident throughout the game, as they out-rebounded Clackamas 46-42 and put together a balanced offensive performance. Emily Peabody led the Penguins with 18 points and added five rebounds, showcasing her scoring ability both inside and out. Ella Botnar contributed an efficient 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including two crucial three-pointers that kept Clark within striking distance.
Mia Hicks-Oliver provided a double-double performance with 13 points and 10 rebounds, controlling the paint on both ends of the floor. Her hustle and second-chance opportunities highlighted Clark's relentless effort.
Despite the outcome, Clark's defense shone in stretches, holding Clackamas to just 32.9% shooting from the field. The Penguins' ability to protect the rim and grab defensive boards limited Clackamas' chances for easy baskets.
The game featured multiple lead changes in the first half as Clark built an early lead, highlighted by a strong second-quarter showing where they outscored Clackamas 17-13. However, turnovers proved costly for the Penguins, with Clackamas converting 25 Clark miscues into 23 points.
Clark (8-7, 0-2 NWAC) will look to bounce back in their next contest as they continue to push through the challenging NWAC schedule. Fans can expect the Penguins to come out hungry for a victory as they take the lessons from this game and apply them moving forward.
