Eugene, OR – The Lane Community College women's basketball team (11-0, 1-0) delivered a commanding performance, defeating Clark College (8-6, 0-1) 81-49 on their home court. The defending NWC champions set the tone early, outscoring the Penguins 25-14 in the first quarter and never looked back.
Emma McDonald Leads the Charge Emma McDonald led all scorers with an impressive 26 points on 10-for-23 shooting, including four three-pointers. McDonald showcased her versatility, contributing seven rebounds and two assists while maintaining consistent scoring through the game. Her 17-point first-quarter explosion helped Lane establish an insurmountable lead.
Balanced Team Effort Lane's success was a team effort. Micah Wicks posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while dishing out 11 assists, demonstrating excellent court vision. Lillee Duffin was a force inside, grabbing 14 rebounds to go with nine points and five blocks, providing a strong defensive presence in the paint.
Maitlin Young and Kya Kanoho added 12 points each, with Young showing efficiency on 5-for-8 shooting. Alessa Soto contributed off the bench with eight points and eight rebounds.
Clark Struggles to Find Rhythm For Clark, Mia Hicks-Oliver led the Penguins with 10 points and seven rebounds, but the team struggled to find offensive rhythm, shooting just 23% from the field and 9.5% from three-point range. Clark's bench added 22 points, with Ella Botnar contributing seven points and four rebounds.
Despite the loss, Jayda Jackson showed hustle, recording six steals and eight rebounds for the Penguins.
Defensive Domination Lane's defense stifled Clark throughout, forcing 19 turnovers and holding them to just 49 points. The Titans also recorded eight blocks and eight steals, showcasing their dominance on both ends of the court.
Next up Clark will host Clackamas (10-3, 1-0) at home on Wednesday, January 8th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
