COOS BAY, Ore. - The Clark Penguins battled their way to a 69-60 victory over Southwestern Oregon in a tightly contested matchup, improving their conference record to 5-2 while snapping the Lakers' momentum at Prosper Hall.
Clark was led by Beau Swett's stellar performance, as the sophomore guard posted a game-high 21 points, shooting 7-for-8 from the free-throw line and collecting seven rebounds. Jackson Esary and Terrell Moorer Jr. contributed 14 points apiece, with Moorer Jr. showcasing his efficiency at the charity stripe, going 4-for-4.
The Penguins leaned on their defense and ability to capitalize on turnovers, converting 22 points off Southwestern Oregon's 18 turnovers. Anthony Sprauer and Theo McMillan provided additional scoring balance, with Sprauer adding 10 points and McMillan dishing out a team-high eight assists.
The game was close throughout the first half, with Clark narrowly edging the Lakers 32-30 after 20 minutes of play. Southwestern Oregon briefly took a six-point lead early in the second half, but Clark responded with a decisive 13-2 run to reclaim control. The Penguins secured the win by holding the Lakers to just 40% shooting from the field and contesting effectively from beyond the arc.
Southwestern Oregon's Colby Whicker poured in 20 points, including four three-pointers, while Kam DuPaix added 15 points and seven rebounds. Despite their efforts, the Lakers struggled to find consistent scoring, managing just one free-throw attempt all game.
Clark's ability to dominate in transition and secure second-chance points proved pivotal, as they finished with 34 points in the paint and nine second-chance points.
With the win, the Penguins improved to 13-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play, while the Lakers fell to 14-6 and 3-4. Clark will look to build on this momentum as they travel to Salem, Oregon on Wednesday to take on Chemeketa (7-12, 2-4 NWAC).
