Penguins Rally to Secure Thrilling Five-Set Victory Over Lane

Recapping last night's Penguin volleyball action

Vancouver, WA - In an intense showdown at home, Clark College prevailed over the Lane Titans in a thrilling five-set match. The Penguins showed resilience and determination, securing a 3-2 victory with set scores of 24-26, 25-23, 24-26, 25-20, and 15-10.

Clark got off to a challenging start, dropping the first set 24-26. However, they quickly regrouped and bounced back in the second set with a 25-23 win, thanks in large part to improved attack efficiency and strong defense. The third set saw another narrow loss for Clark, but they maintained their composure, taking the fourth set 25-20 to force a decisive fifth set.

In the final set, Clark's offense shone, with 9 kills and just 1 error for an impressive hitting percentage of .308.

Overall, Kylie Miller led the charge offensively, posting 16 kills and a .333 hitting percentage, while Ruby Ochoa contributed 15 kills and 5 digs. Setter Josie Becker distributed the ball effectively, finishing with 27 assists, helping the Penguins stay balanced throughout the match.

Defensively, Clark's back row was anchored by Sydney George and Emelynn Cecil, who combined for 68 digs, keeping the rallies alive and providing a solid foundation for the team's attack. The blocking front, led by Miller and Olivia Brown, added valuable contributions, accumulating 4 team blocks.

Clark's serving also played a critical role, with Emelynn Cecil delivering 3 aces that helped to shift the momentum during crucial moments.

With this win, Clark improved their record to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in league play, while Lane fell to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in conference action. This victory showcased the Penguins' tenacity, as they dug deep and fought back multiple times throughout the match.

Clark looks to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next matchup at Clackamas next Wednesday (10/2), hoping to climb further up the conference standings.
