Clackamas Outlasts Clark in 5 Set Match

Oregon City, OR — In a tense battle that went down to the wire, the Clackamas Cougars emerged victorious over the Clark Penguins with a final score of 3-2 (25-10, 22-25, 25-16, 23-25, 16-14). The match, held in Oregon City, showcased both teams' resilience and determination.

From the outset, Clackamas came out strong, dominating the first set with powerful attacks and solid defense, leaving Clark struggling to find their rhythm. The penguins, however, responded emphatically in the second set, turning the tide with improved blocking and a more precise offensive strategy led by Ruby Ochoa and Sydney George.

As the match progressed, both teams traded blows, each refusing to yield. The third set saw Clackamas regain their composure, executing with precision to take a crucial 2-1 set lead. Yet, Clark once again battled back in the fourth set, showcasing their tenacity and fighting spirit to force a decisive fifth set.

The final set was a nail-biter, with neither team willing to concede an inch. Clackamas managed to edge ahead in the closing moments, capitalizing on crucial errors by Clark and converting key points. 

Individually, Cooper Nave and Abbigayle Bailey led the charge for Clackamas with 18 and 11 kills respectively, while Eleina Young orchestrated the offense with 41 assists. Defensively, Olivia Woody anchored the backline with 26 digs, ensuring Clackamas remained solid in the face of Clark's persistent attacks.

For Clark, Ruby Ochoa and Sydney George contributed significantly with 9 and 10 kills respectively, supported by Kylie Miller with 11 kills of her own. Josie Becker orchestrated the offense with 20 assists, while Emelynn Cecil and Olivia Brown anchored the defense with a combined 38 digs.

The match statistics reflected the closely contested nature of the game, with Clackamas holding a slight edge in both attack percentage and total points earned. The victory improves Clackamas' season record to 8-2 (3-2 in conference play), while Clark moves to 4-7 (2-3 in conference play) as they prepare for their next challenge.

Both teams demonstrated commendable sportsmanship and competitive spirit throughout the match, making it a memorable encounter for players and fans alike. As the season progresses, both Clackamas and Clark will look to build on this performance, aiming for continued success in the conference.

Next up, Clark (4-7, 2-3) will travel to Chemeketa (4-6, 2-3) on Friday October 4th.  Game time is set for 6:00pm.
