VANCOUVER, Wash. – It is with heavy hearts that Clark College Athletics announces the passing of former Coach Frank Arnold, a revered figure in both tennis and basketball realms. Coach Arnold passed away at age 89 on June 8, the day following the induction of two of his state champion tennis players into the prestigious Athletics Hall of Fame.

The news comes just one day after the elation of the annual Hall of Fame event hosted by the athletic department on June 7. The 2024 class saw the deserving induction of the formidable tennis doubles team, Joe MacDonald and Rodney Swanson, who were the junior college state tennis doubles champions in 1965 and were coached by none other than Coach Arnold.

Frank Arnold's coaching legacy spans decades, leaving an indelible mark on the world of sports. He coached for the Penguins from 1964 to 1966, where he not only coached tennis but also made significant contributions to the basketball program.

His journey didn't stop there; he went on to join the ranks of basketball greatness under the mentorship of the legendary Coach John Wooden at UCLA. His time at BYU further solidified his status as a coaching titan, leading the Cougars to three WAC regular-season titles and a memorable Elite Eight appearance in the 1980-81 season.

Coach Arnold's impact extended far beyond the court; he was a mentor, a visionary, and a beacon of inspiration for countless athletes and coaching aspirants. His dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to excellence will forever resonate within the sports community.

The loss of Coach Frank Arnold is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his illustrious career.
