Clark Dominates Oregon Club in 90-61 Victory

VANCOUVER, WA – The Clark College Penguins (2-0) extended their perfect start to the season with a commanding 90-61 win over Oregon Club (0-1) in a non-conference showdown Saturday afternoon. Despite a valiant effort from Oregon Club's Ebissa Chako, who poured in 19 points, the Penguins proved too much with a balanced offensive attack and relentless defense.

From the opening tip, Clark seized control of the game, sprinting out to an early 10-point lead. Theo McMillan, who finished with a game-high 28 points, was at the forefront, knocking down shots from everywhere on the floor. His inside-outside game kept Oregon Club's defense scrambling. Jackson Esary added 22 points, including four three-pointers, and helped keep the pressure on the Oregon Club throughout the game.

Oregon Club showed flashes of promise, with Joe Lairson contributing 14 points and Chako lighting it up from beyond the arc (5-for-6 on three-pointers). However, they struggled to get much consistency on offense, finishing the game shooting just 31.3% from the field, including a dismal 0-for-6 from deep in the second half.

Clark, led by McMillan's 12-of-22 shooting performance, shot an impressive 47.9% from the field and finished the game with a total of 40 rebounds, compared to Oregon Club's 27. Terrell Moorer Jr. and Marcell Roberts contributed to the balanced effort, each adding 12 and 11 points, respectively.

While Clark's offense was firing on all cylinders, it was their defense that set the tone early. The Penguins forced Oregon Club into 14 turnovers, which they converted into easy fast-break opportunities. Oregon Club, on the other hand, struggled to capitalize on their possessions, especially in the second half, where they only managed 32 points on 26.5% shooting.

In the first half, Clark shot 57.1% from the field and built a comfortable 46-29 lead, with McMillan leading the charge with 16 points. Oregon Club's Chako was the lone bright spot, scoring 17 of the team's 29 points, including a trio of three-pointers.

Oregon Club's shooting woes continued in the second half as they could only muster 32 points on a paltry 26.5% shooting. In contrast, Clark shot 38.9% in the second half but excelled at the free-throw line, converting 12 of 13 attempts (92.3%).

As Clark cruised to their second win to start the season, Oregon Club's early struggles were evident, but Chako's performance gave fans hope for the future.

Game Notes:

  • Oregon Club was outrebounded 40-27, and they struggled to make any significant impact in the paint, getting outscored 38-22.
  • Clark's bench contributed heavily, with 19 points coming from reserve players like Roberts and Pak.
  • Oregon Club had a much stronger second-half free throw performance (14-for-19, 73.7%) but could not overcome their shooting struggles from the field.

Next up for the penguins, they will travel to Pacific on Tuesday, November 19th taking on the boxers in Forest Grove, Oregon.
