Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Suffers First Loss of the Season at Highline

Tukwila, WA – In a decisive performance, Highline College showcased their offensive prowess, overwhelming Clark College with a commanding 5-0 victory on October 26, 2024, at Starfire Sports. The match was a display of tactical superiority, highlighted by a series of well-executed plays and critical goals.

The game began with both teams showing initial signs of energy. However, Highline took control early on. In the 25th minute, Mason Abdella converted a penalty kick, putting Highline on the scoreboard. This set the tone for a dominant first half, where Clark struggled to find their rhythm despite recording six shots.

The second half saw Highline ramp up their intensity. Abdella struck again from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute, doubling the lead and marking a historic moment with his second goal of the season. The floodgates opened shortly after, as Zachary Bartlett added to the tally in the 66th minute with a well-placed shot, assisted by Leon Tezuka. Highline's offensive barrage continued with goals from Thomas Ferew and Preston Salisbury, sealing the match with a total of five goals.

Highline's goalkeeper, Mason Averill, was instrumental in maintaining a clean sheet, making six crucial saves and thwarting every attempt by Clark, who managed to put 12 shots on goal but couldn't capitalize. Clark's best efforts came from players like JP Warnell and Reece Jones, but they were consistently met by Averill's solid performance.

Despite the scoreboard, Clark kept pushing, earning six corner kicks and creating scoring opportunities, but a lack of execution in the final third proved costly.

Highline's tactical discipline and sharp execution were evident as they capitalized on Clark's defensive lapses and maintained pressure throughout the game. With this victory, Highline improved to a record of 12-1-1, while Clark fell to 12-1-1, a stark reminder of the intensity of the competition as the season draws to a close.

Clark will look ahead to refocus as they host Centralia for their last regular season match of the season.  Due to potential weather forecast, the game will be held at Harmony Sports Complex, Field 7 at 12:00pm, Wednesday, October 30th.

The results of league play Wednesday will determine final standings in conference with Clark already securing their post season appearance earlier in the season.
