Clark College Cruises to Straight-Set Victory Over Umpqua

Recapping last night's Clark Penguins Volleyball action

VANCOUVER, Wash. -  The Clark College Penguins dominated the Umpqua Riverhawks with a convincing 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-22) win in a home league match. With this victory, Clark improves to a 7-11 overall record and 5-6 in league play, showcasing a well-balanced offensive and defensive performance to earn the sweep.

The Penguins came out strong in the first set, taking an early lead and maintaining momentum to close it out 25-18. The Penguins' offense was powered by efficient hitting, recording 14 kills with a .300 hitting percentage in the opening set. The team kept the pressure on Umpqua in the second set, winning 25-15, as their defense held Umpqua to a negative hitting percentage of -.068.

In the third set, Umpqua fought back, keeping the score close, but Clark sealed the deal with a 25-22 win. Sydney George led the Penguins with 10 kills and a remarkable .421 hitting percentage, while Olivia Brown contributed 10 kills of her own. Both players provided stability in attack as Clark finished the match with a solid .245 hitting percentage overall.

Clark's defense was anchored by Emelynn Cecil, who recorded 15 digs, while the team as a whole tallied 50 digs. The Penguins also displayed a strong serving game, collecting seven aces, with Olivia Brown and Sydney George adding two aces each.

Clark's setter, Josie Becker, orchestrated the offense effectively with 19 assists and contributed a kill, an ace, and three digs to the team's all-around effort.

Umpqua struggled to find rhythm throughout the match, recording 31 kills and hitting just .105 as a team. Brooklyn Ledford and Elise Zijlstra were bright spots for Umpqua, leading their team in kills with eight and six, respectively.

The win was a key result for Clark as they continue to push for a higher seed in the league standings. With a dominant team effort on both sides of the ball, Clark looks poised to make a strong finish in the remaining part of the season.

Clark will look to build on this victory in their next game as they face the Lane Titans on Friday, October 25th. The Penguins are confident that this performance sets the tone for a strong finish to the season.
