Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Clinches Playoff Birth with 2-0 Win over South Puget Sound

In a match that showcased the skill and determination of the Clark soccer team, the Penguins secured a convincing 2-0 victory against South Puget Sound, pushing their unbeaten streak to 11 games (11-0-1) and securing a playoff birth, currently sitting at the top of the West Region standings.

The match began with Clark dominating possession, firing off 13 shots in the first half alone. South Puget Sound's defense was tested early, with goalkeeper Hayden Sciera making several critical saves. Despite their efforts, the pressure from Clark proved too much, culminating in a penalty kick converted by Ethan Hundt at the 44:28 mark, giving Clark a 1-0 lead just before halftime.

The second half saw more of the same, as Clark continued to control the pace of the game. South Puget Sound managed to threaten with a few shots, but Clark's goalkeeper Jake Bilsborough was up to the task, making key saves to preserve the shutout.

At 61:55, Clark doubled their lead with a well-placed shot from JP Warnell. The Penguins kept the pressure on, firing off 11 shots in the second half, with many testing Sciera, who finished the match with an impressive eight saves.

The stats tell a story of dominance: Clark outshot South Puget Sound 24 to 9, and corner kicks were heavily in favor of the penguins as well, with 10 to South Puget's 6. Bilsborough, who played a solid match in goal, made seven saves across both halves, earning him a clean sheet.

With the win, Clark remains at the top of the conference standings, poised for a strong finish to the season.

Next up, the penguins will host Pierce (3-9, 3-11-1) on Wednesday, October 23rd at Kim Christensen Field on the campus of Clark College.
