Clark Cross Country competes with a field of 4-year programs at Missoula Invite

VANCOUVER, Wash. - The Clark College men's and women's cross country teams embarked on a journey to Missoula, Montana, eagerly anticipating the University of Missoula invite, held on a brisk Friday, September 15. Although they were the lone 2-year program in a field of 4-year schools, the penguins were determined to leave their mark on the competition.

The men's 8k race kicked off the day's events, and the challenging course, adorned with daunting hills, was enough to intimidate even the most seasoned runners. Max Baeder, the leader of the pack, surged ahead, his determination propelling him up the first steep incline.

 As he charged through the final stretch, he clocked in at an impressive 26:57.48, securing a notable finish for the Clark College men's team and 54th overall.

Ryan Koenninger wasn't far behind, he crossed the finish line with a time of 28:11.60, his determination and grit evident in every stride. Spencer Holm and Timothy Bradshaw soon followed, completing the race with times of 29:15.11 and 28:48.60, respectively.

Dylan Stevenson, displayed unwavering resolve, finishing with a strong time of 28:56.25. As the men's team congregated, they were aware that they had demonstrated their mettle against formidable competition.

On the women's side, the 5k race was equally demanding. Sydnee Boothby emerged as the penguins' leader, finishing 29th overall with an impressive time of 18:38.73. 

Katrina Feriante was not far behind, completing the course with a time of 20:34.35, showcasing her resilience and dedication. Dani Buttrell, Jozi Eller, Chloe Crawford, and Soleil Bianchi also exhibited their unwavering commitment to the team, finishing with times of 21:00.05, 21:05.18, 21:07.43, and 21:10.10, respectively.

Despite the tough competition, the Clark College women's team displayed admirable teamwork and determination throughout the race, earning them respect in the field. As they stood together, sweat-soaked but proud, they knew they had given their all in Missoula, Montana.

The Clark College men's and women's cross country teams may have been the underdogs, but they left the University of Missoula invite with their heads held high, having shown that determination, grit, and teamwork could overcome even the most challenging of courses and competitors.

Next up, both cross country teams will be headed to Salem, Oregon and compete in the Charles Bowles Invitational on September 30th.
