Story by Tim Melcher
The Clark College Athletic Department is excited to congratulate Head Men's Cross Country Coach Bob Williams on being named the South Region Co-Coach of the Year. Williams was awarded the honor this week at the South Region Championships.Â
Â
Coach Williams has done an amazing job building both the men's and women's programs up over the last five years. His teams are always competitive and strive for greatness under his tutelage. The men's program this year has continued to improve and set impressive marks. That was shown this past weekend with their 2nd place overall finish in the South Region Championships.Â
Â
Williams had an impressive athletic career at the University of Oregon, learning from legendary coaches Bill Bowerman and Olympian Bill Dellinger. He became a teacher and coach after leaving the U of O and has been coaching ever since.Â
Â
His impressive pedigree at the high school level, training state champion athletes, district champion athletes and also led teams to become Oregon State Track and Field Champions during his time in the high school ranks. Impressive coaching credentials for a man that loves to teach and coach.Â
Â
When he took over the Clark College men's and women's cross country and track programs in 2014 his goals were simple, to build competitive and solid teams that are full of great young people that want to compete.Â
Â
His athletes describe Coach Williams as a man who has a love for the sport of running, who is quiet and reflective, with a good sense of humor and a dedicated passion for developing adults with strong character and discipline for their craft.Â
Â
We are all very proud of Coach Bob Williams and the job he has done and is doing with our student-athletes in the cross country and track and field programs.
Congratulations Coach Williams on your award.Â
