Kristie Brookes

As an athlete running at Pacific Lutheran University, Brookes earned All-American honors in the heptathlon, which she will brings to her second year coaching job at Clark College.  Coach Brookes applies the experience and knowledge gained from competing as a multi-event athlete to the following key areas: speed development, energy conservation, proper biomechanics (sprints, throws and jumps) and meet management skills.

During her 13 years of coaching, Kristie has coached 9 state champions in the 400 meters, 100 meters, and relays.  She has also coached several top 10 finishers at the WIAA State Championships, and NWAC Championships in the sprints and jumps.  Brookes’ coaching philosophy begins with training athletes to become technically sound runners.  This is accomplished by establishing a strong and explosive base and then transitioning to concentrated work on vertical and horizontal propulsion.   Kristie believes it is essential to stay up to date on the latest research in the areas of technique, biomechanics, nutrition and recovery.  She is a USATF Level 2 Coach in distance, jumps, hurdles, and sprints.

In addition to coaching, Brookes is actively involved in giving back to the sport she loves.  She is a certified USATF Level One Coaches Educator.   Over the past 5 years, she has presented on topics ranging from periodization to event specific training at numerous coaches clinics across the state of Washington.
