Matt Scholer

  • Title
    Assistant Coach - Sprints

Matt Scholer returns to the Penguin’s Track & Field coaching staff, focusing on sprints and relays, as well as using his experience in the hurdles and jumps. Matt competed at the collegiate level and fell in love with the sport. Matt has coached since graduating from college, and still competes every now and then.

While coaching at the high school level, Matt took his athletes to 5A and 6A State Championships every season, with several athletes breaking school records or placing in the top three.

In his first season at Clark College, Matt continued his coaching success. Every single one of his athletes qualified for Championships, with most earning All Conference and All American. The girls 4x100m took 2nd place, while an injury on the boys side still resulted in a 4th place finish. Being extremely competitive, Matt and his sprints group is looking to place even higher the next season, and into the future.

Matt cares about his athletes maturing and finding success on and off the track. Once he builds up relationships with his athletes, he isn't afraid to challenge them, giving them a little push to be the best person they can become.

Penguin head coach Owen Frasier has been very happy with the job Coach Matt has done since joining the Penguin coaching staff.  "Matt is an extremely dedicated coach who goes above and beyond for his athletes. He spends countless hours preparing for practice, as well as after practice breaking down film and providing athletes with feedback.  I love his competitiveness and how demanding he is of his athletes. He expects a lot of them because he also expects a lot of himself."

Matt is also an Oregon 6A high school soccer coach and teacher. He lives a short walk away from Clark College with his wife and soon to be two daughters.
