Coach Johnson is a 1994 graduate of the University of Kansas. He is a career educator serving as a teacher, athletic director, principal and central office administrator during his 20 + year career in public education. He currently serves as the Director of Secondary Education Programs at ESD 112 in Vancouver, WA.

In Johnson's third season, he led Clark College to sixth place finish and a 14-13 record averaging 79.3 points per game. Under his leadership the Penguins claimed the 2017 Southern Region Championship and he was named the NWAC Southern Region Coach of the Year. In the past two seasons seven student athletes in the program have moved on to continue their education and playing career at 4 year colleges and universities.

Prior to being named to the head coaching position at Clark, Coach Johnson spent the past 22 seasons coaching high school basketball in Oregon and Washington. He has won over 200 games at the high school level spending the past 12 years as the head coach of his alma mater in Castle Rock, Washington. During that span, the Rockets made 12 consecutive trips to the post season, compiled 187 wins including a 108-59 league record, 4 league championships, 2 District Championships and multiple trips to the state tournament including their most recent 6th place finish in 2015. Coach Johnson has been blessed with many outstanding athletes in his program over the years. 15 of his former players have gone on to compete in athletics at the four-year level.
