VANCOUVER, Wash. — Clark College battled throughout 90 minutes against one of the NWAC's top teams Wednesday night, falling 1-0 to Tacoma at Kim Christisen Field.
The Penguins kept the match scoreless through the opening 45 minutes, matching Tacoma with four shots in the first half. Clark created several opportunities, including shots from Aaron Anitok-Brokken and Evan Roscoe that were saved by Tacoma goalkeeper Kevin Ramos-Carrillo.
Clark continued to pressure in the second half, finishing the match with 11 total shots, including four on goal. Anitok-Brokken led the Penguins with three shots and two shots on goal, while Ian Catarina-Cruz also recorded three shots. Roscoe added two shots, including the one on goal, while Travis O'Hara, Akeem Archer and Mason Renner each contributed a shot.
After Tacoma took a 1-0 lead in the 68th minute on a goal from Nathan Coyle, Clark continued to look for the equalizer. Mason Renner forced a save in the 68th minute, while Anitok-Brokken put another shot on frame shortly afterward.
The Penguins continued to push late. With less than three minutes remaining, Maksym Koval made a defensive save to keep Clark within one goal. Clark then earned a corner kick before Evan Roscoe narrowly missed on a header in the 89th minute.
In goal, Glenn Kolibas played all 90 minutes and recorded three saves, including a penalty-kick save in the 83rd minute to keep the deficit at one. Clark's defense also held Tacoma to five shots on goal despite the visitors finishing with 13 total shots.
Clark finished the match with 11 shots to Tacoma's 13, while the Penguins earned three corner kicks.
The Penguins (1-4-1, 1-4-1) will look to bounce back in their next match as they continue NWAC West Region play when they host South Puget Sound (0-6-1. 0-4-1) on Wednesday, Sept 30th.
