Penguins Open Their Season at Home vs Lower Columbia

VANCOUVER, Wash. — After spending the entire 2025 season playing away from campus, the Clark College volleyball team finally returned home Wednesday night, taking the court at the O'Connell Sports Center for the first time in nearly two years.

The Penguins battled Lower Columbia in the homecoming match but fell in straight sets. Despite the result, the night marked a significant moment for the Clark volleyball program as the Penguins welcomed their fans back to their home court.

Clark was led defensively by Serenity Marshall, who recorded a team-high 18 digs. Grace Whalen added 16 digs and a team-high 16 assists, while Emily Capen contributed 10 digs.

Offensively, Abigail Heberle and Lilli Dean paced the Penguins with five kills apiece. Heberle added three digs, while Dean finished with a .286 hitting percentage. Sophia Trevino also hit .286 and added two kills.

Lower Columbia finished the match with 49 kills and a .205 hitting percentage, while Clark recorded 20 kills. The Red Devils were led by Ella Eib and Chesney Schultz with nine kills each.

While the Penguins were unable to celebrate the return home with a victory, the match marked the beginning of a new chapter for Clark volleyball as the program once again has the opportunity to compete in front of its home fans after a full season away from campus.

Next up, the penguins host Edmonds at home on Tuesday, September 1st.
