Clark struck first in the eighth minute when Bella Rodriguez found the back of the net for the Penguins' first goal of the season, giving Clark an early 1-0 advantage.

Lane continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, but Clark goalkeeper Ana Garling came up with several key saves to protect the lead. Garling recorded seven saves in the first half, including multiple stops during a sustained Lane attack late in the period.

The home team eventually equalized in the 34th minute, as Nora Mellott scored off an assist from Georgia Chance to send the match into halftime tied at 1-1.

Lane took the lead immediately after the second-half kickoff when Trinity Smead scored, with Pheona Riddle credited with the assist, to give the home team a 2-1 advantage.

Clark continued to battle throughout the second half and created several opportunities to find the equalizer. Shaylyn Maloney and Lauren Adams each put shots on goal, while Yaizza Navarette and Isabel McCauley also generated late chances.

Garling continued to anchor the Penguins defensively, making five second-half saves and finishing the match with 12 saves. Lane threatened to extend its lead midway through the half, hitting the post in the 62nd minute, but the Clark defense held firm to keep the match within one goal.

Despite the loss, the Penguins showed fight and resilience in their season opener, competing throughout the 90 minutes on the road against a strong Lane side.

Clark will look to build on its opening performance as they open conference play at South Puget Sound on Wednesday, September 2nd.
